Print & Embellishment Method Comparison

Choosing the right method depends on your design, fabric, order quantity, and budget.

Screen Printing

Lowest Cost @ Volume
  • Best for: Simple designs with 1–6 solid colors, large orders (100+ pieces)
  • How it works: Each color requires a separate mesh screen. Ink pushed through screen onto garment.
  • Fabrics: Cotton, poly-cotton blends, polyester (with special inks)
  • Cost: Setup per screen ($15–30) + low per-piece. Cost drops at 100+ pieces.
  • Durability: Excellent — properly cured screen print outlasts the garment
  • Limitations: Not ideal for full-color photos or gradients. Each color = setup cost

DTG (Direct to Garment)

Best for Small Orders
  • Best for: Full-color designs, photos, gradients. Low quantity (30–99 pieces)
  • How it works: Specialized inkjet printer applies water-based ink directly. No screens.
  • Fabrics: 100% cotton or high-cotton blends only
  • Cost: No setup. Higher per-piece ($3–8). Most economical at 30–99 pieces.
  • Durability: Good on cotton — may fade slightly after 30+ washes
  • Limitations: Cotton only. Slower production. White underbase needed for dark garments

Embroidery

Premium Perception
  • Best for: Logos on polos, jackets, caps, bags. Small designs with solid colors
  • How it works: Digitized design stitched into garment by computerized machines
  • Fabrics: Works on virtually any fabric
  • Cost: One-time digitization ($15–50) + per-piece by stitch count. Highest perceived value.
  • Durability: Outstanding — embroidery outlasts the garment
  • Limitations: Not for large designs, photos, or gradients. High stitch counts stiff on thin fabrics

Sublimation

Unlimited Colors
  • Best for: All-over prints, unlimited colors, photos, complex artwork. Tracksuits, polyester tees
  • How it works: Design printed on transfer paper, heat-pressed into polyester at 200°C. Ink becomes part of fabric.
  • Fabrics: Polyester or polyester-rich blends (min 65% polyester)
  • Cost: No per-color charges. Moderate per-piece. Best value for multi-color all-over prints.
  • Durability: Excellent — will not crack, peel, or fade. Permanent.
  • Limitations: Polyester only. Cannot achieve true dark/black (white fabric required). Slight color variance
