What Is 360 GSM Extreme-Heavyweight Fabric?

360 GSM extreme-heavyweight fabric sits at the absolute ceiling of what can still be called "wearable" fabric. At this density, the textile crosses a perceptual threshold — it stops feeling like clothing and starts feeling like a wearable blanket. This is the weight that powers the blanket hoodie trend, extreme cold-weather gear, and ultra-premium statement pieces.

"360 GSM is where fabric becomes an experience. When someone picks up a garment at this weight, they don't think 'hoodie' — they think 'this is the warmest thing I've ever touched.' That reaction is worth every cent of the premium."

The star constructions at 360 GSM are mink fleece, coral fleece, and Sherpa fleece — ultra-plush fabrics with deep piles that simply don't exist below 300 GSM. Mink fleece in particular, with its silky-fine dense pile, is almost exclusively produced in the 340–400 GSM range because lighter weights can't support the pile structure.

Quality control at 360 GSM is our most demanding process. Every batch is tested for shrinkage (<2% post-compaction), pilling resistance (Grade 4–5), colorfastness (Grade 4–5), thermal resistance (ASTM D1518), pile retention after washing, and tensile strength per ASTM D5034. At this price tier, zero defects is the only acceptable standard.

Non-Wearable
360 GSM is the practical ceiling of wearable fabric. Above 400 GSM, fabric enters blanket, upholstery, and technical insulation territory — it no longer functions as clothing. 360 GSM is the heaviest weight that still drapes, moves, and wears like a garment. All weights tested per ASTM D3776.

What 360 GSM Delivers

At this extreme weight, every property is at its absolute maximum — this is the heavyweight champion.

Blanket-Level Warmth

The highest thermal retention in any wearable fabric — wraps the body in genuine blanket-weight insulation.

Ultra-Plush Hand Feel

Mink and coral fleece at 360 GSM produce the softest, most luxurious texture in the entire fleece family.

Complete Wind Block

The ultra-dense knit is virtually impermeable to wind — functions as a full wind barrier without any coating.

Zero Pilling (Grade 4–5)

The extreme fiber density makes surface pilling physically impossible — garments stay pristine for years.

Enveloping Drape

Unlike 320 GSM which holds rigid structure, 360 GSM flows and wraps around the body like a cocoon.

Indestructible Durability

The heaviest, most abuse-resistant fabric in sportswear — outlasts every other weight by a wide margin.

Substantial Weight Perception

The physical weight of the garment itself creates a premium, grounded feel that customers find deeply satisfying.

Extreme Cold Performance

With DWR treatment, provides genuine protection in sub-zero conditions — not just warm-weather layering.

What It's Used For

360 GSM serves a narrow but high-value set of applications — every product is a statement piece or extreme-performance garment.

Pro tip: 360 GSM is the "blanket hoodie weight" — it's the heaviest fabric that still creates a garment people want to wear, not just wrap around themselves. 400+ GSM crosses into actual blanket territory. If you're making blanket hoodies, oversized pullovers, or extreme cold gear, 360 GSM is the perfect intersection of blanket warmth and garment functionality.

Honest Assessment

Advantages
  • The softest, most luxurious hand feel achievable in fleece — mink and coral textures are unmatched
  • Blanket-level warmth in a wearable garment — the defining feature of the blanket hoodie category
  • Enveloping drape that wraps and cocoons the body — creates a deeply satisfying wearing experience
  • Ultra-premium perception — the heaviest weight commands the highest retail prices ($80–$150+)
  • Complete wind and cold barrier — functions as standalone outerwear in extreme conditions
  • Zero pilling (Grade 4–5) — the densest pile structure resists surface abrasion entirely
  • Trend-driven demand — blanket hoodies and oversized pieces are one of the fastest-growing categories
  • Ideal for limited drops and gift items — the weight itself becomes a marketing story
Disadvantages
  • Only suitable for oversized, relaxed-fit garments — zero tailored or fitted applications
  • Extremely seasonal — 2–4 months of relevance in most markets (winter only)
  • Highest fabric cost per meter in the wearable range — significantly impacts margins
  • Very heavy shipping weight — air freight is often cost-prohibitive at this weight
  • Out of the package, fabric can feel stiff — requires enzyme wash or garment dye to soften
  • Deep pile can soften print detail — not ideal for fine-line or small-text screen printing
Our mitigation: All 360 GSM fabrics are pre-compacted for under 2% shrinkage. We include enzyme washing as a standard option that eliminates initial stiffness. For printing, we recommend bold designs with 14pt+ minimum text — fine details get lost in the deep pile. Sea freight is strongly recommended at this weight — it reduces shipping cost by 55–65% compared to air freight, which is critical for profitability at this fabric weight.

Best Printing Methods for 360 GSM

The ultra-deep pile at 360 GSM requires specific approaches — some methods work brilliantly, others struggle.

Make It Yours

360 GSM customization focuses on texture and feel — these treatments define the entire garment experience.

01

Pile Type

Mink (silky smooth), coral (ultra-soft), or Sherpa (curly textured) — each creates a completely different feel.

02

Pile Height

Standard pile, medium pile, or deep pile — controls how plush and how warm the fabric feels.

03

Enzyme Wash

Essential at this weight — softens the initial stiffness and pre-ages the surface for a lived-in feel.

04

Garment Dyeing

Pigment-dye finished garments for a vintage, faded look — extremely popular for blanket hoodies.

05

DWR Treatment

Water-repellent coating for snow-shedding and light rain protection on outerwear pieces.

06

Pre-Compaction

Critical at 360 GSM — mechanical pre-shrinking guarantees under 2% shrinkage after washing.

Ordering Process

Extreme-weight fabrics require careful planning — expect slightly longer timelines for the best results.

Frequently Asked Questions

A blanket hoodie is an oversized hoodie designed to wrap around you like a wearable blanket — typically with oversized dimensions, extra-long sleeves, and a giant hood. 360 GSM is the ideal weight because it provides genuine blanket-level warmth and weight while still being technically wearable. Below 300 GSM, it feels like a normal heavy hoodie; above 400 GSM, it becomes too stiff to function as clothing. 360 GSM hits the perfect intersection of blanket warmth and garment wearability.
Mink fleece (also called mink velvet or mink fabric) is an ultra-soft, ultra-plush polyester knit with an exceptionally fine, dense pile that mimics the texture of mink fur. At 360 GSM, mink fleece achieves its full potential — the weight supports the deep, silky pile that makes it the softest fabric in the fleece family. It's smoother and silkier than Sherpa, which has a curlier, more textured pile. Mink fleece is almost exclusively produced at 320–400 GSM.
Yes — but with caveats. 360 GSM is at the upper edge of what's considered wearable fabric. It works beautifully as oversized, relaxed-fit garments: blanket hoodies, oversized pullovers, wide-leg lounge pants, and drop-shoulder jackets. It does NOT work for fitted, tailored, or athletic garments — it's too heavy and rigid for anything form-fitting. With proper garment washing to soften the initial stiffness, 360 GSM becomes incredibly comfortable in a cocoon-like, wrapped-in-warmth way.
The 40 GSM difference (12.5% more weight) creates a noticeable shift in character. 320 GSM is the heaviest 'normal' hoodie weight — structured but still drapes like clothing. 360 GSM crosses into blanket territory — it has more weight, more drape, and a more enveloping feel. 320 GSM holds its shape like armor; 360 GSM flows and wraps like a wearable blanket. 320 is for premium winter hoodies; 360 is for blanket hoodies, oversized pieces, and extreme cold gear where the blanket-like feel IS the product.
Only 100% polyester versions can be sublimated. At 360 GSM, the most common polyester constructions are mink fleece and polar fleece — both accept sublimation, though the deep pile softens fine details. Cotton and poly-cotton blends cannot be sublimated. For best sublimation results at 360 GSM, use bold, large-format designs and avoid fine text or thin lines that get lost in the pile.
Mink fleece has a finer, silkier pile with a smooth, almost fur-like hand feel — it's the more premium option. Coral fleece has a slightly thicker, more textured pile that's incredibly soft but with a more casual, cozy character rather than a luxury one. Both are ultra-plush at 360 GSM, but mink feels like luxury loungewear while coral feels like the coziest blanket you've ever touched. Mink is 10–15% more expensive.
Untreated 360 GSM can shrink 6–8% — the highest shrinkage in the wearable fabric range because there's more fiber mass to contract. This is why pre-compaction is absolutely non-negotiable at this weight. We mechanically pre-compact all 360 GSM fabrics during finishing, which locks the fibers and guarantees under 2% shrinkage. 100% polyester versions shrink less than 1% naturally, but even poly benefits from pre-compaction at this extreme weight.
Absolutely. We provide free A4-size fabric swatches (up to 3 options) shipped via DHL/FedEx at no charge. For 360 GSM, we strongly recommend requesting all three texture types — mink fleece, coral fleece, and Sherpa fleece — the difference in hand feel between these three at 360 GSM is dramatic and must be experienced in person. The right texture choice is the most important decision at this weight.
