No — cotton-spandex blends cannot be sublimated. Sublimation only bonds permanently with 100% polyester fibers. The cotton content in these blends will not accept sublimation dye, resulting in washed-out, faded colors that wash out further. For cotton-spandex garments, the correct decoration methods are screen printing (plastisol or water-based with stretch additive), direct-to-garment (DTG) printing, heat transfer vinyl (HTV), or DTF transfers. If you need sublimation with stretch, you should use our 100% polyester-spandex fabrics instead.
The difference is stretch percentage and recovery force. 95/5 (5% spandex) gives approximately 15–20% stretch with light recovery — suitable for fitted tees, polo shirts, and casual wear where gentle stretch is enough. 92/8 (8% spandex) gives 25–35% stretch with strong recovery — needed for leggings, yoga pants, compression layers, and any garment that must stretch significantly and snap back reliably. 90/10 (10% spandex) is reserved for high-compression garments like performance base layers and shapewear. Going above 10% spandex in cotton blends starts to compromise the natural cotton hand feel.
Cotton-spandex shrinks less than 100% cotton but more than polyester blends. Our pre-shrunk cotton-spandex fabrics are guaranteed under 3% shrinkage when washed at 30°C (cold wash). However, if washed in hot water (40°C+) or dried in a machine dryer, shrinkage can reach 5–8% because heat degrades spandex fibers and causes cotton to contract. The critical rule for cotton-spandex care is: cold wash, hang dry, no bleach, no iron on high heat.
