What Is Cotton-Spandex Blend Fabric?
Cotton-spandex blend fabric combines natural cotton fibers — prized for softness, breathability, and skin-friendliness — with a small percentage of spandex (elastane/Lycra) that transforms the fabric from rigid and shape-losing into stretchy, form-fitting, and recovery-capable.
We offer three standard cotton-to-spandex ratios — 95/5, 92/8, and 90/10 — across single jersey, interlock, and rib knit constructions. Each combination produces a distinct stretch profile, hand feel, and garment suitability.
Every batch is tested for stretch and recovery (ASTM D3107), pilling resistance (ISO 12945-2 Grade 4+), shrinkage (pre-shrunk to <3% at 30°C), colorfastness (Grade 4+, AATCC 61), tear strength (ASTM D1424), and spandex degradation resistance after 30 wash cycles.

95/5 Cotton-Spandex
15–20% stretch with gentle recovery. Feels almost identical to pure cotton but with just enough give for comfort. The spandex is barely perceptible — this is "cotton with a secret." Best for garments where the wearer shouldn't consciously notice stretch.
92/8 Cotton-Spandex
25–35% stretch with strong, reliable recovery. The sweet spot for most fitted garments — enough stretch to put on easily, enough recovery to stay fitted all day. This ratio defines the modern polo shirt, fitted tee, and casual legging. Our most ordered blend.
90/10 Cotton-Spandex
30–40% stretch with aggressive recovery. Approaching activewear-level stretch while retaining cotton's natural feel. Essential for yoga pants, compression base layers, shapewear, and any garment that must stretch significantly and snap back forcefully.

Cotton's absorbent surface is a printer's friend — but the stretch means you must use techniques that flex with the fabric.

Screen Printing
The #1 method for cotton-spandex — the fabric's absorbent, smooth surface takes plastisol and water-based inks exceptionally well. Critical: use stretch-base additive or athletic ink formulation so the print flexes with the garment without cracking. We automatically add stretch agent to all screen prints on cotton-spandex.

Direct-to-Garment (DTG)
Cotton-spandex is the ideal DTG substrate — cotton fibers absorb the water-based DTG ink deeply, producing photographic quality with a soft hand feel. The stretch doesn't affect DTG prints because the ink penetrates the fiber rather than sitting on top. Best for small batches, complex art, and individual custom pieces.

Heat Transfer / DTF
PU vinyl and DTF transfers work on cotton-spandex — but must use stretch-grade transfer film that flexes with the garment. Standard HTV will crack on 92/8 and 90/10 blends. We stock stretch-rated DTF film specifically for cotton-spandex applications. Ideal for player names, numbers, and small-run customization.
