What Is Recycled Nylon Fabric?
Recycled nylon (polyamide) is nylon 6 or nylon 6,6 polymer that has been recovered from waste streams and reprocessed into new textile fiber. The waste sources include abandoned fishing nets (the single largest source — an estimated 640,000 tons enter oceans annually), industrial nylon scrap from carpet and textile mills, and post-consumer nylon garments collected through take-back programs. The recovered material is either chemically recycled (depolymerized back to caprolactam monomer and repolymerized — producing virgin-quality fiber) or mechanically recycled (melt-extruded — slightly lower quality but lower cost).
We stock both Econyl-branded regenerated nylon (Aquafil, Italy — full supply chain traceability, premium positioning) and generic GRS-certified recycled nylon (cost-effective, same performance, less brand recognition). Both are available as 100% recycled nylon for lightweight shells and linings, or as nylon-spandex blends (80/20, 82/18) for swimwear and compression — the two most requested constructions by our OEM clients.

Quick-Drying
Nylon absorbs only 4–5% of its weight in moisture (vs. cotton's 25%) and releases it rapidly. Recycled nylon dries in 30–50% less time than cotton blends — essential for swimwear, triathlon, and multi-sport use.
80% Less Energy
Chemical recycling of nylon uses approximately 80% less energy and 90% less water compared to virgin nylon production from petroleum. CO2 emissions are reduced by 50–70% depending on the energy source used in recycling.
Ocean Waste Diversion
Fishing net-sourced recycled nylon directly removes ghost gear from marine environments. Each ton of Econyl produced prevents approximately 0.7 tons of fishing nets from remaining in oceans where they entangle marine life for decades.
Soft Hand Feel

Branding Recycled Nylon Garments
Nylon requires different decoration methods than polyester — sublimation is off the table, but nylon excels with several alternatives.
Screen Printing
The most versatile option for recycled nylon. Nylon accepts screen print ink exceptionally well — the slightly porous fiber surface grips plastisol and water-based inks better than polyester's smooth surface. Cure at 150–160°C (lower than polyester's 180°C). Results are crisp, durable, and suitable for chest logos, back graphics, and sleeve prints up to A4 size.
Embroidery
Excellent on recycled nylon — the fabric's stability (especially in higher GSM constructions) provides a clean, stable base for stitching. Use lightweight cutaway backing on stretch fabrics to prevent the embroidery from restricting the garment's elasticity. Recommended for chest crests, collar marks, and sleeve logos on premium-positioned recycled nylon garments.
Heat Transfer & Digital Print
The lowest-risk option for recycled nylon, especially for swimwear where fabric distortion from heat is a concern. Apply at 120–140°C — well within nylon's safe range. Plastisol heat transfers, polyurethane transfers, and digital print transfers all work well. For light-colored fabrics, direct-to-garment (DTG) digital printing produces photo-quality results without any heat press at all.
