The Sublimation Advantage: Why Top Teams Never Use Screen Printing
Sublimation printing has completely transformed team uniform manufacturing—and for good reason. Unlike traditional screen printing, where ink sits on top of the fabric and eventually cracks, peels, or fades, sublimation turns solid dye into gas under heat and permanently bonds it with polyester fibers at a molecular level.
The result? The design becomes part of the fabric itself. It breathes, stretches, and washes exactly like the base material—because it is the base material. A sublimated jersey will look identical after 200 washes as it did on day one.
But sublimation offers more than just durability. It unlocks design possibilities that are impossible with other methods:
- Unlimited colors at zero extra cost: Unlike screen printing, where every color adds a setup fee and a layer of ink, sublimation prints all colors simultaneously from a digital file
- All-over, edge-to-edge printing: Designs can wrap around sleeves, continue across shoulders, and cover every square inch of the garment
- Gradient and photo-realistic detail: Complex patterns, photographic elements, and smooth color transitions print flawlessly
- Zero added weight or stiffness: No thick ink layers mean the fabric retains its natural drape, stretch, and moisture-wicking properties
The one limitation: sublimation only works on light-colored polyester fabrics (white or very light grey base). For dark fabrics, we use high-quality screen printing or heat-transfer vinyl as alternatives—but for 95% of team uniform applications, sublimation is the superior choice.
